Yeah, it is a lot of miles. If you've read any of my other post I explained that I used to ride a Shadow 1100. I bought it with 56K and rand it to 81K before I blew the top end. To fix it, required engine removal and shops wanted to charge more than the bike was worth to fix it. While I have a decent job, and own a home, I've never had a lot of spare cash. I didn't want to try and sink a bunch of money into re-building the Shadow and then have something else go wrong with it. That's why I bought the Savage. It looked big enough to take me to work and back yet easy enough to fix (or less expensive to fix) when somehting goes wrong. With my long work commute, any vehicle I drive will rack up high miles, so I thought it might as well be something easy to work on like the Savage. Out here in the LA area, there are many of us who buy houses out in the suburbs and commute in because real-estate prices are so high. I know of at leat 4-5 bikers that do the same thing I do. Most of them have a back-up form of transportation for rainy days, but motorcycles are easier to negotiate the freeways with. Anyway, I am hoping that my Savage will go to at least 60K before rebuild, with a little tenter care.
